Our Approach
What's The Story?
Why should I run slowly?
At some point in the past you went for a run. You wanted to enjoy it. You wanted to lose weight. You wanted to experience a runner's high. But, after 3 minutes you were out of breathe. After 7 minutes your legs started to hurt. So, you suffered through your 20 minute loop, collapsed back on your couch, and quickly decided you'd never do that again.
You are not alone.
Our Story
Jay M.
I frequently admired the way runners seemed so happy, healthy, disciplined, and fit. It seemed like such an easy thing to do- no special equipment is necessary, no membership is needed, and no obvious athleticism is required.
I started my journey to become a runner thinking I'd put in some initial effort, and then be just like those happy, healthy, disciplined, and fit runners I see all over the place. I failed miserably.
After many starts and stops, much trial and error, and lots of experimentation, I finally stumbled into an approach that achieves all I had hoped for! I kept refining my system, learned all kinds of stuff about training and gear, and ultimately thought that my approach could help others.
I named my approach "Running Doesn't Suck", then shortened it to R.D.S.
The R.D.S approach can be summed up in two words- RUN SLOWER.
Not everyone is naturally bouncy and made from sinewy fast-twitch muscle. Not everyone feels light-as-air while sprinting down the trail. I'm not made of that stuff, and I don't ever feel light. However, I found a way to reap all the benefits of those slim, springy runners you see sprinting in the park.
The solution is- RUN SLOWER.
Do you feel too tired to run? ...RUN SLOWER. Can't seem to build up your endurance? ...RUN SLOWER. Unable to add additional time to your regular run? ...RUN SLOWER. Feeling sore from yesterday's run? ...RUN SLOWER.
I created this R.D.S. site to help you discover the glory of slow running. Show the world that you're proud to run the R.D.S. way- and feel the glory of SLOW RUNNING.
